Silver Mountain Instruction was developed to provide high quality and comprehensive firearms instruction to civilians from beginners to the intermediate firearms enthusiasts. Our goal is to take people new to firearms and give them the fundamentals to grow into the firearms world safely and with confidence.
Judson Crossland
NRA Training Counselor, Instructor and Chief Range Safety Officer
Head instructor for Silver Mountain Instruction, Judson is certified by the National Rifle Association as a Training Counselor, Pistol instructor, Chief Range Safety Officer, Personal Protection Inside the Home and Refuse to be a Victim Instructor. Over the past several years Judson has been instructing throughout the state of Colorado, New Mexico , Tennessee, Texas and Arizona. He gears much of his instruction to the beginner and intermediate shooter and likes to focus on the civilian students that want to 'level up' from where ever they are in their shooting skills.
Judson prides himself on being a student as well as an instructor and commits a considerable amount of time and resources to improving his own training in medical, shooting and instructing abilities. Judson has trained under renown Chief Firearms Instructor and Chief Range Safety Officer Robert Butler with Kenaz Tactical Group out of Colorado Springs, John Benner of Tactical Defense Institute, Clint Smith of Thunder Ranch, Rob Pincus and Timothy Knight is also a shooting coach and instructor that Judson gets much of his training techniques from. Based in Durango Colorado since 2010, he still travels extensively all over the country to deliver high quality cost effective instruction to shooters.

Steve Reyes

Steve works as a firefighter and EMT on Fort Carson in Colorado Springs and runs the Colorado Springs branch of SMI.

Shawn Herrin
Shawn is a NRA Pistol instructor, Chief Range Safety Officer, Personal Protection Inside the Home and Refuse to be a Victim Instructor, fervent shooter and IPSC competitor, safe, responsible, ethical and legal gun use are his passions. Whether hand loading, practicing, studying or reviewing items, Shawn is constantly focused on guns and shooting. Staunch supporter of the Bill of Rights and very proud American. Shawn is also the owner of the We Like Shooting brand and runs his media company full time.

Timothy Knight
NRA Instructor, Chief Range Safety Officer and NRA Board Of Director
Timothy is a NRA certified pistol instructor. He is also a NRA Refuse to be a Victim Instructor & Range Safety Officer. He grew in an active hunting and fishing family. His next door neighbor growing up was on the US Army Marksmanship team, so Tim spent many hours in the pits and hanging out with the team. He grew up in a firearms and outdoor culture. His motto is: "Always a student" and he has not stopped formally training since his first visit to Thunder Ranch in 2000. He is a multiple graduate with multiple firearms platforms (pistol, patrol rifle and shotgun) of both Thunder Ranch and Gunsite. He has attended several other firearms and defensive driving schools. His education has included working in automobiles, helicopters and tactics inside buildings. Most recently he traveled to attend Ohio's armed school teacher program to see the cutting edge of what is possible in schools to protect children as a last resort (where legal, it is in Ohio). He moved out of Colorado in June of 2015 but he tries to come back at least once a year to co-teach a few classes with us. We can still hear him screaming "front site" and "make it work!"
Timothy is a Director on the National Rifle Associations of America's Board of Directors. He current serves on two NRA committees: Grassroots Politics & Clubs and Associations.
Tim successfully lead the historic 2013 Colorado recalls and now spends more time traveling for the cause. He loves the 2nd Amendment but we know he really misses the range time.

Blake Mooney
Blake has been shooting for the last 5 years. In this most recent year he has earned his basic pistol instructor and Range safety officer certification through the NRA. He has a passion for all shooting sports, instructing and always wants to learn more.
Andy Montoya
Andy Montoya resides in Albuquerque, NM. Andy is certified by the National Rifle Association, as a Pistol Instructor and Range Safety Officer. For New Mexico, He is certified with the Department of Public Safety as a Concealed Carry Instructor. He is also a board member for New Mexico Shooting Sports Association. Over the past year, Andy has taken the Civilian medical course 4 times and understands the importance of this training. With the addition of teaching CCW classes in NM. He also co-instructs with Judson to certify new NRA pistol instructors in Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, and any other states that SMI ventures to.

Andy has been shooting for many years, starting in Boy Scouts back in 1990. Andy has a passion for helping students and potential instructors alike in continuing their ongoing training and development. Andy started his firearms career training under Judson Crossland and has also traveled to Oregon to learn from Top Tier teacher Clint Smith of Thunder Ranch and will be traveling to Arizona soon to take, Combative Pistol with Dave Spaulding. Beyond polishing his skills, Andy is one of the hosts on the Firearms Radio Networks - The After Action Project along with Judson Crossland and Jeremy Gill.
